Kalibrering pipette

How often should a pipette be calibrated and serviced?

How often should a pipette be calibrated and serviced? It depends on several factors, such as what measurement accuracy is required, how often the equipment is used, how stable the equipment is, in which environment the equipment is used, how the equipment is stored and whether the equipment has been exposed to abuse. Many choose to calibrate and service their pipettes at least once a year or more often depending on the aforementioned factors. To ensure that the pipette is not inaccurate in the period between calibrations, it is recommended to continuously check the pipette’s precision – check whether the pipette’s precision is within the tolerance range.

Check the precision of the pipette between calibrations

A pipette calibration shows the difference between expected and actual volume, which must be within a given tolerance. If it is outside the tolerance range, it can result in incorrect dilutions and even incorrect assay results. This may mean that the results are not reproduced and the entire analysis has to be redone. To ensure at an early stage whether a pipette is out of tolerance, it is recommended to check the pipette precision between calibrations. In this way, you can avoid that the deviation is only discovered at the next calibration.
