Labcon ProtectR® centrifuge tubes are ideal for transporting samples without acidification of the samples. Samples of proteins, other biological molecules and cell cultures shipped in the usual way and stored on dry ice are at high risk of acidification by up to 2.5 pH units. This is because in standard centrifuge tubes, the CO2 vapour from the dry ice often enters the tube, which can cause a significant drop in sample pH.
Even during short-term storage, samples can become acidified. Acidification can affect the integrity and reproducibility of samples and can result in a loss of protein activity. Labcon ProtectR® centrifuge tubes seal tightly and prevent CO₂ acidification when storing or shipping samples on dry ice.
The transport centrifuge tubes have a conical bottom and can be centrifuged (RCF) up to 12,500 x G. They have black easy-to-read graduations and reverse reading scale. The tubes have good labelling possibilities as they have a large white writing field with a patented anti-smudge surface. Labcon centrifuge tubes are made of high-quality, non-cytotoxic medical grade polystyrene resin. The tubes have attached leak-proof lids in green that are made of polyethylene. The centrifuge tubes are sterile, autoclavable, certified free of ATP, RNase, DNase, DNA/RNA and pyrogen and can be frozen to -80°C.
IATA 95 kPa certified
Most international airlines now require compliance with IATA standards for all shipments of biological substances. IATA 95 kPa certification ensures that containers are leak-proof under different pressure conditions such as air transport. This certification requires the container to be able to withstand an internal pressure that produces a pressure difference of no less than 95 kPa (0.95 bar or 13.8 psi) without leaking. Labcon ProtectR® transport centrifuge tubes are IATA 95 kPa certified.
Labcon ProtectR® transport centrifuge tubes are developed in Labcon’s own in-house laboratory and tested in external professional laboratories where the tubes are tested for use in most basic centrifugation tasks.
All sterile products from Labcon are packed in medical packaging and radiation sterilised according to a validated ISO 11137 method to a sterility assurance level of 10-6. Validated sterilisation ISO 11137 makes the centrifuge tubes ideal for use in research and medical laboratories.

An environmentally friendly product
Labcon’s centrifuge tubes are all produced with a better environment in mind. The products are manufactured at Labcon’s own production facilities in California, where all products are made from 93% renewable energy and include sustainable materials such as bioplastics and recyclable recycled plastics. Products are packaged in uniquely designed packaging with minimal plastic content and printed with inks without the use of heavy metals.
The use of plastic products in laboratories is a necessity for scientific research, but these plastics often have a high environmental impact. Analysis shows that a large part of this impact comes from the manufacturing process. You can greatly improve your lab’s environmental impact by choosing Labcon Earth Friendly products.
FDA approved for food contact
Labcon is an FDA-registered medical device manufacturing facility and their products meet the highest standards of quality assurance. All products are manufactured in a tightly controlled environment and subjected to rigorous testing and performance procedures. Labcon products meet all specified standards for precision, clarity, twisting, centrifugation and are free from contamination. Labcon products are made from resins that meet FDA CRF21 GMP, making them approved for food contact.
